MBA Presents First Seminar
in Education Series
On Thursday, March 19, Enza
Dandeneau of Prudential CT Realty, Glastonbury
office, hosted the first in a series of
educational seminars for the MBA. Ms. Dandeneau,
along with over 20 attendees, networked and
enjoyed refreshments. Ms. Dandeaneu, a Realtor
with over twenty years experience, says
“Marlborough is holding its own in this economy.
We haven't seen the big hits like California,
Florida or Nevada have taken. We continue to see
people moving to the area both from in state and
out of state.” Ms. Dandeneau also handed out
information regarding current market activity
specific to Marlborough. MBA Education Committee
Chairman Diana Bartolotta, of B-Law, was the
evening's guest speaker. The presentation
titled, “A Healthy Business Checklist”, focused
on several key topics. Attorney Bartolotta
defined different entities such as LLCs, LLPs,
corporations, partnerships, and the pros and
cons for each of them. Attorney Bartolotta
discussed the risks you may be exposing yourself
and your business too with each entity. She also
covered the difference between employees and
independent contractors, as well as franchises
and independent businesses. Contracts, marketing
materials and business planning were also
discussed. She made it an interactive
presentation, taking questions from the group
throughout her presentation. Attorney Bartolotta
noted that she is seeing more litigation between
employees and employers, more consumer disputes
and a lot of uncertainty. Handouts were
distributed, and included an article from the
Commercial Record focusing on the uncertainty
for small businesses especially in this economic
climate. Future topics for the educational
series include legislative issues affecting
small businesses, marketing your small business
and insurance needs for the small business
owner. Monthly meetings are open to members and
guests, and there is no cost to attend. The next
monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, April
16 at Sadler's Ordinary beginning at 8:30 a.m.
