Marlborough Health Care Center –
Partners in Care and Giving
Nestled within a lovely residential street in
Marlborough, CT, you will find the Marlborough Health
Care Center, a long-term care and shorter-term
rehabilitation center for 120 recipients of quality
health care. As you enter the lobby, you receive a warm
welcome and you realize you are about to experience a
facility that is a cut above the rest – a facility that
cares for its residents, its visitors and the
surrounding community.
Finding a facility that provides the top most quality of
care is the desire of any family member who participates
in the decision of medical care for a loved one. The
Marlborough Health Care Center is committed to providing
this level of care. “It is all about quality of care and
customer service”, offers Marianne Herold, the
Administrator of the facility. Herold brings a wealth of
experience to this leadership position, with both a
clinical and administration background. When asked what
makes this facility a success, Herold mentions the
importance of “being there for people, doing the right
thing and going above and beyond”. This commitment is
clearly demonstrated by the staff of 175 employees who
interact daily with the residents to ensure the best
plans of care and to provide the priceless assurance
that loved ones are cared for in the highest quality
manner.
Regarding the decisions that family members make for
their loved ones, Herold believes “the importance of
keeping communication open with family members is
critical.” The facility has a “family atmosphere,” and
the quality relationships that evolve are cornerstones
to the supportive feeling that both residents and
families experience. Herold beams when she talks about
visits by senior citizen volunteers, many of whom have
lost their spouses and have come to be supportive of
other senior residents. “What I do everyday is so worth
it,” Herold reflects as she stops for a moment to
experience the wealth of relationships that are built
and nurtured in the facility.
The Marlborough Health Care Center continues to make
enhancements to their facility, including the current
decorating renovations within the various units and a
planned addition that will provide private rooms to
their valued residents. As the facility reaches out to
make enhancements, they also are thrilled to announce
the addition of two new members to their leadership
team: Pamela Luchka, the new Director of Admissions, and
Maribeth Duane, the new Community Liaison and Marketing
Director. Herold is pleased to have both these women as
part of her leadership team, and she shares an
excitement for the value they will bring to the
facility.
The Marlborough Health Care Center is very much an
active member of the Marlborough community. Not only
does the facility celebrate the rural, quiet setting
that makes Marlborough such a welcomed home, it also
invests in the community that embraces its resident in
health care. The facility offers at least two
informative sessions each year on relevant issues in the
town residents; most recent topics include identity
theft prevention, preparations of living wills and
information on legal matters relative to health care. On
a monthly basis, there is outreach to Marlborough’s
Senior Center and senior centers of surrounding towns in
supporting birthday and holiday celebrations for their
members. The facility also supports town groups such as
the Arts Center, the Marlborough Business Association
and the Playscape renovation project. Even the town’s
youngest residents benefit from outreach efforts such as
the annual Halloween party that attracts 300 children
and the Easter Egg Hunt. When discussing the efforts
that support the town residents, Harold wants it known
that the Marlborough Health Care is a “resource for
all.”
The month of May provides a time to gear up to celebrate
the dedicated professionals that work at the Marlborough
Health Care Center – both National Nursing Home Week and
National Nurses Week fall in May. In addition, the
facility takes time out to celebrate both the licensed
and non-licensed staff. As the summer progresses, the
Marlborough Health Care Center will host other events,
including a visit by Senator Mary Ann Hanley (scheduled
for June), an outdoor community concert in the summer,
and a blood drive in September. The Marlborough Health
Care Center is truly a partner in providing quality
health care and a partner with the community; as
residents we are the fortunate ones to have a dedicated
facility steeped in the values of care, compassion and a
desire to give back to the community.
