Marlborough
Business After Hours
January 29, 2008
Marlborough
business leaders gathered at
Bodyworks
Fitness
Center
on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 for a Business
After Hours evening. Over 35 representatives of
area businesses and guests were present to spend
an evening exchanging ideas, renewing business
relationships, and discussing issues that impact
the business community in Marlborough. Sponsored
by the Marlborough Business Association, area
businesses come together for informal, casual,
evenings of networking and friendship several
times each year.
The evening was co-hosted
by Jan Flanigan of
Bodyworks
Fitness
Center, Ann Adams of
Your Financial Organizer, and Gil Thompson of
Gilpages Web Design. As customers exercised on
treadmills and stationary bicycles in the
fitness center, MBA members and guests gathered
in conversational groups, breaking off only to
hear from our speakers.
Special guest Samantha
Schadtle of RHAM
High School spoke to
the membership. RHAM sponsors a Career day which
MBA members participate in. This is an
opportunity for RHAM Sophomores and Juniors to
learn more about business and entrepreneurship
within their own communities.
Jennifer Barone of
Sovereign Bank spoke briefly on behalf of the
Marlborough
Elementary School’s 22nd
Annual Family Bingo Night sponsored by the
Marlborough PTO. This major fundraiser for the
school provides for services, educational
materials, and programs for students in
preschool through 6th grade. It is
also an opportunity for our business members to
purchase inexpensive advertising space in their
Bingo Program and an excellent way to reach our
local customers.
Taking advantage of our
setting in the
Bodyworks
Fitness
Center, Mary Ellen Dombrowski,
Executive Director of the Glastonbury Chamber of
Commerce, presented the “Living Well in
Glastonbury” program. The
MBA is putting together a team led by MBA
president Donna Finocchiaro to participate in
this series of health and fitness seminars and
activities. The team members will be tracking
their meal choices, time doing cardio exercises,
and participating in education on healthier
living.
The MBA is pleased to
welcome Christopher Graves and Bethany Hartshorn
of Avoca Designs, LLC, a full service graphic
design & printing business. Coming to
Marlborough
from
Los Angeles, California, Chris and Bethany took the
opportunity to meet the MBA membership and
explain a little about their business.
Special thanks for
donations of door prizes to Bev and Mark Taylor
of the Taylor’d
Touch, Craig Robinson of It’s So Ranunculus
Flower Shoppe, Jan Flanigan of Bodyworks Fitness Center,
and Country Roads package store. The Marlborough
Tavern donated both a fresh fruit and a
vegetable platter in recognition of our health
theme this evening. Ann Adams of Your Financial
Organize donated the paper goods, and Gil
Thompson of Gilpages Web Design provided video
images of scenic Marlborough.
Our next featured Member of
the Month will be Koreen Ryan of Ryan Mortgage.
Well written articles prepared by Barbara Meyers
and Sheri Dursin of Spectrum Writing Services
are featured on the MBA web site. The articles
highlight the businessperson, their business and
products. At each monthly meeting a business in
attendance is selected in a drawing to be
featured the following month.
Marlborough area businesses are invited to
join the Marlborough Business Association. This
is an excellent venue to present yourself to the
community at large, fellow business owners, to
add your voice to community organizations and to
our local government. Visit the MBA web site at
http://www.mba-ct.org for more information.
