Marlborough Health Care Center, Inc.

The next time you spend an afternoon at Lake Terramuggus in Marlborough, you may not realize that you are only a neighborhood away from a skilled nursing facility with state-of-the-art rehabilitation services and a dedicated staff providing exceptional care.  Located in a quiet, residential area in a beautiful country setting, Marlborough Health Care Center (MHCC) has been part of the community for over thirty years.  It is well known for its commitment to the highest level of quality care, a focus on customer service, and a nurturing environment for both patients and families.

Marlborough Health Care Center caters to the individual needs of all its residents, whether admitted for short-term rehabilitation, long-term care or respite care.  Rehabilitative services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy are available seven days per week.  Marlborough Health Care Center also provides on-site consulting services in audiology, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, and psychiatry.  Lab services, X-Ray, and transportation services are also available.  With a mission to preserve the dignity of all residents and improve their quality of life, Marlborough Health Care Center works through its physicians and clinical staff to return each short term rehabilitation patient to his or her optimal functioning level and ultimately back to the community.

Marlborough Health Care Center is set apart by a dedicated clinical and administrative staff that knows their patients well.  “As the largest employer in town, we are proud of the continuity and longevity of our staff,” says administrator Marianne Herold.  “In all of our departments, we have people who have worked here for a number of years.”  This cheerful and friendly staff has contributed a great deal to the facility’s superior reputation.  “We have several nurses who come in on their days off to spend time with residents who don’t have regular visitors,” adds Herold.

MHCC is very excited about its recently completed renovation which added a 1,500 square foot rehabilitation gym and renovated short-term rehabilitation unit.  This remodeled unit of the facility houses the specialized rehabilitation program and its short term patients.  The new gym provides the optimal healing environment with its bright and spacious atmosphere along with newly acquired state of the art equipment.  The Rehabilitation team dedicates all its skills and knowledge to a single focused objective: improving the patient’s functional abilities through intensive individualized therapeutic services.

The administrative staff at Marlborough Health Care Center is constantly striving to implement programs that ensure exceptional quality of care for its residents and patients.  The following programs all work toward the common goal of providing the best experience for each and every resident.

Passport Program – The Passport Rehabilitation program was specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals requiring a short-term rehabilitative stay following a hospitalization.  This comprehensive customer service program is designed to provide a “journey” at MHCC that feels just like home, with amenities such as electric beds, TV and phone service, and wireless Internet access, to ensure a pleasant stay at the facility.

Ambassador Program – For each admission to MHCC, an “ambassador” is assigned to serve as a patient’s liaison for the entire length of his or her stay.  This staff member acclimates the patient and family to the facility and visits the patient daily to make sure all needs are being met.

Family Council – Each quarter an open meeting is held for all family members of MHCC patients and residents.  Families have the opportunity to meet new staff, speak with social workers, and participate in educational programs.  In addition to these quarterly meetings, family members are important to the daily life of the facility and always encouraged to visit.  “We depend on family members for communication,” states Admissions Director, Peggy Poresky.  “They can tell us about the hobbies, routines, likes, and dislikes of our patients and residents.”

Recreational Activities – Knowing that residents have different social needs, MHCC provides a number of activities to help them get involved.  Residents can participate in Bingo, crafts, movie nights, monthly birthday parties, and ice cream socials, to name just a few.  There are also multiple opportunities for exercise and therapeutic recreation.

The vibrant life inside Marlborough Health Care Center extends to the community, as each year, neighbors and local Marlborough residents are invited to events such as an Easter Egg Hunt and a Halloween costume party at the facility.  “It’s our way to give back to the community and increase awareness of our facility and what we have to offer,” says Kristen Susman, Community Marketing Liaison.   In July the facility hosted the “Swing Into Summer” outdoor concert held on July 26th from 6:30 to 8:00pm.  Members of the community were invited to the MHCC grounds to enjoy an 18-piece orchestra, food, and lots of fun activities for kids, such as a moon bounce.

The continued dedicated efforts of the Marlborough Health Care Center have paid off.  They have earned an excellent reputation among physicians and a great relationship with all area hospitals.  For more information about the services at Marlborough Health Care Center or to tour the new and updated facility, please contact Peggy Poresky at pporesky@nathealthcare.com or call 295-9531 (www.ltcmhcc.com).
