Don Kuerner, Gateway Financial Group, Inc.
Impacting Lives for the Better
For the
past four years, many of us have known Don
Kuerner as the dedicated President of the
Marlborough Business Association (MBA). What you
may not know is that he brings the same
dedication, strategic thought, and personal
connection to the clients of his financial
services business.
“It’s not
about the product, it’s about the people,”
reflects Don when he talks about how he
approaches his financial services business.
“Everyone has a product – many times the same
product. It is how you approach the person that
sets you apart.” Enjoying eighteen years in the
financial services industry, Don currently works
with Gateway Financial Services located in
Glastonbury, CT.
Don’s
focus is to design and monitor investment
portfolios for individuals and institutions. He
serves as the primary advisor handling
investments and planning, manages insurance
risk, and collaborates with attorneys concerning
legal matters. In addition, Don holds three
designations: CLU (Certified Life Underwriter),
CFC (Chartered Financial Consultant), and CFP®
(Certified Financial Planner™).
When asked
about why Don focuses his efforts in the
financial services arena, he replies, “It’s not
a job or a career for me; it’s a lifestyle”. A
lifestyle of caring and impacting lives for the
better. Don strives to help people accomplish
what they want from life. “If you focus solely
on what they want to do,” Don explains, “it’s
too narrow and you lose the big picture.” Don is
all about the big picture. He fully appreciates
and celebrates the balance needed in life and
approaches his relationships the same way.
Valuing each and every relationship, Don applies
his vision of knowing his clients well,
understanding what they want, and helps in
removing road blocks to achieve future
independence.
In
addition to Don’s financial services focus, he
has reached out to business owners to establish
“exit planning.” Many times, business owners do
not think about the plans needed to exit their
businesses. These owners, who have worked long
and hard developing and nurturing their
businesses, are not prepared to sell them as
entities. Don helps owners see, in financial
terms, that their businesses have value beyond
being solely a job.
Helping to
bring success to someone’s future means being
able to listen, understand, assess options, plan
necessary actions, and stay connected along the
way. Staying in touch with a client is
critically important to establishing and
maintaining the relationship. Don understands
this and typically connects with his clients
three to four times a year. However, he is
always just a call away, and he welcomes the
opportunity to strengthen and nourish each
relationship.
When Don
is not busy reaching out to MBA members, leading
MBA events, planning for its future success, or
connecting with his financial services clients,
you’ll find him spending time on his other
passions. Don is an avid fan of automobiles and
enjoys restoration, car shows, and car races.
Don is pictured with his pride and joy, a 1955
Crown Victoria which he has fully restored. In
addition, Don enjoys backpacking the blue-blazed
trails of Connecticut and spending time with his
treasured family.
