MBA October
meeting at Sadler's OrdinaryTax
reform, lighting the Town Green, Member of the
Month Program, and business promotion all topics
at MBA October meeting
The MBA October meeting was held at Sadler’s
Ordinary and hosted by Kevin Haggerty. There
were 29 members and 2 guests in attendance.
President Don
Kuerner
opened the meeting by thanking Kevin for a
wonderful breakfast and highlighting a note of
thanks from last year’s MBA scholarship winner,
Kalil Lane. MBA member and Resident State
Trooper Many Acosta, although not present, was
given accolades by the members and First
Selectman Bill Black for the $10,000 grant that
was awarded to the Town for the purpose of
building relationships between teens, troopers
and seniors.
Guest speaker Pam Sawyer, State Representative,
addressed the group on the
subject
of repealing the $250 Business Entity Tax.
Although total repeal was not likely, Sawyer
asked the group to get feedback to her office as
to how a bill might be drafted to give relief
from this tax to small businesses with low
incomes.
President Don Kuerner announced that the MBA
Board had voted and approved the professional
lighting of the Town Green through the framework
of “The Eight Weeks of Holiday Celebration.” An
MBA member business or multiple businesses (up
to four) may sponsor a week of lighting. “This
framework will allow the MBA to build other
events into the holiday season such as our Carol
Sing and a possible carriage ride,” said
Kuerner. “More information will be available as
the details are worked out. Any member business
wanting to be a sponsor should contact me.”
New members were asked to introduce themselves
and the general membership followed with their
introductions and announcements. The meeting
continued with Don (see
presentation sheet) discussing the
opportunities available to promote your business
leveraging the MBA. Part of the discussion
revolved around the use of the MBA website for
banner ads, press releases, articles and
announcements. “We are experiencing around a
thousand visitors each month. Most of which are
not our members,” said Don. Other promotional
opportunities include hosting a meeting or open
house, speaking on a topic of interest at a
meeting, or working collaboratively with other
members to promote your business.
The
meeting concluded with a drawing for the new
“Member of the Month Program” sponsored by
Spectrum Writing Services. The winner for the
month of November is Sue Farley of Mary Kay
Cosmetics.
The next meeting will be held at the Marlborough
Tavern on November 16th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
This is our Annual Dinner Meeting with the theme
“Celebrating Your Success.” Be sure to mark your
